Higher Education Solution: Datatel® Reporting
![]()
You are the typical, Education “end user”—you need reliable and complete reporting information from Datatel on which to base tactical and strategic, operational decisions for the Registrar’s office, Human Resources, Finance, Student Services, Institutional Advancement, Institutional Research or other areas. Whatever functional area you come from, you need more than just rudimentary reporting capabilities. But you don’t want an overly complex reporting tool that makes you dependent on IT. What can you do?
Consider our DecisionCentric® business intelligence software. Administrators like you can pull the data you need—even from disparate databases outside of Datatel—into one, easy-to-read report to answer your most pressing administrative and business questions.
PROBLEM: Your Datatel system contains thousands of very long, G/L account numbers. Your HR module's database contains account numbers but no account name; while the Finance module's database has the account number, as well as the account name and account description. You are running reports out of HR and you need to display the account number and description, or your reporting will be meaningless to all but a select few accountants. The only way to do it is join the HR and Finance UniData® data sources together on G/L account number, thus pulling the account name/description in from Finance. But how? You’re not a programmer or even a reporting expert. And even if you were, you would have difficulty because gaining concurrent access to multiple UniData data sources is a serious challenge.
SOLUTION: With DecisionCentric Business Intelligence Software, you can access Datatel data and create ad-hoc reports yourself, according to your schedule, without IT support. View tables and fields from multiple Datatel databases—even disparate databases—right at your workstation. Pull data from all of them in the same “Request” for information, just as though they are all from the same database. When you run your DecisionCentric request, you create a “Result Set” from which you can now produce and publish the following formats: Report; Data Cube, Excel, Calendar, XML, Raw Data. Moreover, you can post or email the results anywhere, or export them as PDF, RTF, TIFF, HTML, TXT, DBF, XLS or CVS files.
